(CBS/AP) LOS ANGELES - The "Geezer bandit" may not be a geezer after all.

The FBI now believes that the man who has robbed 16 banks in Southern California may actually be a younger man in a disguise that makes him appear elderly.
According to the Associated Press, witnesses have repeatedly told investigators that the robber appears to be wearing a mask and gloves. After his latest robbery on December 2 in San Luis Obispo, the Los Angeles Times reports that a dye pack exploded in the money he'd demanded and the man reportedly "sprinted" across the parking lot.
Federal authorities say that the speed at which the wanted man was able to run away does not match the abilities of an "older" man.
According to the LA Times, the man dropped a day planner at the scene - which is now being reviewed by the FBI - and may have escaped in a white BMW.
There is a $20,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.
