New York mother, daughter missing for 3 weeks found safe
NEW YORK -- After three weeks, a missing Long Island mother and her 14-year-old daughter have been found, according to CBS New York.
Iona Costello and her daughter Emily were reported missing after having gone on a trip to the city on March 30. They have been found unharmed on the Upper West Side, sources told the station.
Police said there is no need for further investigation, reports CBS New York.
Relatives say that Costello had planned to take her daughter to a show during spring break. When school resumed April 4, Emily did not show up and a day later, family members filed a police report.
A police chief later told reporters that Costello and her daughter were seen March 30 when security cameras recorded the mother and daughter leaving a Times Square parking garage.
According to earlier reports, police tried to ping their phones with no luck. Iona's sister-in-law, Mary Costello, had also set up a Facebook page.
The Costello family is well known in Greenport, where they own a marine contracting business. The family also owns a farm with horses and other animals, reported CBS New York.
A relative told the station that Iona had family troubles, saying that Iona's husband George died two years ago and children from a previous marriage were contesting the will.
The case has reportedly been tied up in the courts for two years.
