New Toothbrush among Tilikum Safety Moves

A modified tooth brush is among the safety precautions trainers at SeaWorld in Orlando are taking as they deal with the killer whale responsible for the death of a fellow trainer last month.

Park officials say trainers will use a 2-foot extension to brush Tilikum's teeth three times a day, reports CBS station WFOR-TV in Miami.

Dawn Brancheau, 40, died Feb. 24 after Tilikum pulled her into the whale tank by her ponytail and thrashed her as a horrified audience looked on. Drowning was the official cause of death.

Following the attack, SeaWorld officials removed the 22-foot, 12,000-pound orca from the marine park's shows and ordered trainers to keep their distance from the animal pending a review of safety procedures. The review is expected to extend into April, reports WFOR.

SeaWorld has said Tilikum will continue to live at the park, despite being linked to two prior deaths.

Meanwhile, SeaWorld and Brancheau's family are waging a legal battle to keep security camera footage of the attack private. Sea World voluntarily turned over video of the incident to law enforcement. Under Florida law, the footage was to be made public at the conclusion of the police investigation but the park and Brancheau's family won a court order temporarily preventing its release.

A court hearing is scheduled next week to decide the issue.
