New NYPD 9/11 aerial footage released
NEW YORK - Yet another chilling video has been released of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City.
The video shows the twin towers up close, smoldering, and continues until the helicopter lands across the harbor. The helicopter had reportedly been deployed to search for people to rescue.
The video is part of a cache of information from the attack handed over by city agencies to the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the federal agency that investigated the collapse.
The footage was shot by the NYPD Aviation Unit, according to the Wall Street Journal. It shows much of what has already been seen: A chilling aerial view of the burning twin towers and the shroud of smoke and dust that settled over the city.
The helicopter eventually lands across the harbor from the towers.
"The whole tower, it's gone," one officer is heard yelling. An officer wonders out loud, "How could it go down?"
The individual who posted the video to YouTube did not respond to an email request for comment from the Wall Street Journal, but appears to be linked to Cryptome.org, a Wikileaks-like website that publishes information on security, intelligence and technology.
