The Allentown High School senior left her western New Jersey home around 7 a.m. and was expected to be heading to school. Three hours later an intense search for the missing teenager was underway, reports CBS station KYW.

The search centers around a pond located in Burlington Township. According to police, Sarah's car was found parked near the pond at 10 a.m. by her 20-year-old boyfriend, who then proceeded to call 911. Police ended up finding her cell phone and purse inside the car, the station reports.

Dive teams searched the shallow pond until darkness fell Monday. They searched along the water's edge looking for any possible clues as to what happened, according to the station.

"At this time we still have nothing leading us to foul play or anything suspicious, " said Burlington Township Police Lt. Brian Painter said to KYW.

More than 100 rescue personnel as well as search dogs scoured the roadways near the area in hopes of finding Townsend.

"The parents right now were just as surprised today when we called to tell them we had their daughter's car out here," Lt. Painter said to the station.

Sarah's father told the station that he wants to let Sarah know he loves her, everything is going to be okay and to please come home.

Police are urging anyone who might know what happened to Sarah to contact Burlington County police immediately at 609-239-5896.
