N.J. man to be sentenced for tossing daughter in creek
FREEHOLD, N.J. - A New Jersey man who tossed his 2-year-old daughter into a creek while she was strapped into her car seat is expected to be sentenced Wednesday to life in prison.
Arthur Morgan III, 29, is scheduled to appear in court in Monmouth County on Wednesday morning.
He was convicted of murder last month in the death of Tierra Morgan-Glover, whose body was pulled from a creek in a park near the Jersey shore in November 2011.
Prosecutors say Morgan killed his daughter to get back at her mother for breaking off their engagement.
They say he weighed down the toddler's pink car seat with a tire jack.
Defense lawyers had asked the jury to convict Morgan of reckless manslaughter, which could have seen him freed in as little as five years.
