NJ dad's 911 call: "I just woke up and my 3-year-old is missing"
HADDON TOWNSHIP, N.J. -- Prosecutors said Wednesday that after an autopsy, they couldn't establish the cause or manner of death of a 3-year-old New Jersey boy found dead in a park three hours after his father reported him missing.
The cause and manner of Brendan Creato's death Tuesday are undetermined, Camden County prosecutor's spokesman Andy McNeil said, while final autopsy results were pending.
The boy's body was found in Cooper River Park about a half-mile from his father's home in a Philadelphia suburb. Authorities have not released details of the autopsy and have not said whether they believe foul play was involved in his death.
Also Wednesday, authorities released audio of the 911 call in which Brendan's father reported waking up in his Haddon Township apartment around 6 a.m. Tuesday to realize his son was gone.
"I just woke up and my three-year-old is missing," D.J. Creato is heard telling the dispatcher, in the call obtained by CBS Philly.
"I don't know if he wandered out or what happened," D.J. Creato said. "I don't know where he is. The door was locked. I guess he unlocked it and left."
Brendan's father and his mother, Samantha Denoto, do not live together.
Denoto released a statement Tuesday evening saying the family is heartbroken. She thanked the people who searched for Brendan and those who gathered at a vigil in his memory. About 100 people attended the vigil, praying and singing.
A man who answered D.J. Creato's cell phone told CBS Philly he was too upset to talk, reports the station.
