New Handheld Computer Competiton

The team that developed the Palm Pilot....now owned by 3Com...is back at it again. This time the company is called Handspring...and the new handheld computer is called the Visor...

"So when we went out and we were looking at which platform on which to build our new product we looked at a variety of different options and we decided the Palm operating system is really the best choice to date."
Product Manager Greg Shirai. So the folks at Handspring licensed their old operating system back from 3Com. While some of the applications are familiar, the Visor adds some new twists....

"We've added a Springboard module to accommodate different hardware extensions to the core product." For instance.. "For instance the modules as we call them that fit into the Springboard slot range from quick back-up cards, you can imagine a card that you place into this slot and it gives you a way to back up everything that's on your device onto a safe place. You can add additional memory. You can have content cards...so imagine games or travel guides or restaurant guides. What's a little bit more exciting is when we open this up to developers."
Plans are in the works for an add-on MP3 music player and even a wireless phone attachment. Starting price...about 150 dollars. You can find more information at handspring.com
