Nets Trade Murdock To Clips
The New Jersey Nets traded backup point guard Eric Murdock to the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday for veteran small forward Johnny Newman.
The stint with the Nets will be the second for Newman, who averaged 6.1 points in 50 games with Cleveland last season. The 14-year veteran was traded with Derek Anderson to the Clippers for Lamont Murray after the season.
Newman averaged 9.5 points and 1.9 rebounds for New Jersey in 1993-94 after being acquired in a deal that sent Rumeal Robinson to Charlotte.
Murdock appeared in only 15 games in last year's lockout-shortened season because of an injury to his left knee. He averaged 7.9 points and 4.4 assists.
