Neil Young's Guitars, Vintage Cars Damaged in Warehouse Blaze

NEW YORK (CBS) Veteran rocker Neil Young's 'heart of gold' was nearly broken when he heard the news that some of his most prized possessions - guitars, vintage cars, memorabilia and paintings - went up in flames early Tuesday.

A three-alarm fire in San Carlos, Calif., damaged a warehouse containing Young's collectibles, but Young got lucky and can rock on.

About 70 percent of the belongings have been salvaged or are salvageable, according to Belmont-San Carlos Fire Chief Doug Fry.

Firefighters acted quickly when they found flames shooting through the roof and they doused the fire within 15 minutes, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

"Neil Young did come down to the scene and was very appreciative of the firefighters for saving as much as they could," said Fry, a big fan of Young's who missed meeting the iconic musician.

While the cause of the fire is under investigation, it did not appear to be suspicious, according to Fry.

The blaze caused at least $1 million in damage, authorities said.
