Neil Young and wife divorcing after 36 years
Neil Young and his wife, Pegi Young, are calling it quits after 36 years of marriage.
Although Young hasn't released a comment, Rolling Stone reveals that Neil has filed for divorce. Records show that a petition for dissolution of marriage was filed on July 29, in San Mateo, California, where they reside. A hearing is set for Dec. 12.
As Rolling Stone points out, Pegi, 61, has been the inspiration behind many of the 68-year-old rocker's songs, including "Unknown Legend" and "Once an Angel."
She was also a frequent collaborator, serving as one of his backup singers. Pegi has pursued music on her own, too, releasing three solo albums.
Neil and Pegi have three children together: two kids of their own and another from Neil's previous relationship with actress Carrie Snodgress. Neil and Pegi's son, Ben, has cerebral palsy and their daughter, Amber, has epilepsy. It's the reason Neil and Pegi are behind The Bridge School, an organization that educates children with severe speech and physical impairments. Each October, they host the Bridge School Benefit Concert in Mountain View, California, to raise money and awareness for the cause. The couple performed together at the show in 2013, and early this year walked hand-in-hand on the red carpet of the Grammy Awards.
In addition to the benefit gig, Young has some tour dates lined up for the fall, along with an appearance at Farm Aid on Sept. 13 in Raleigh, North Carolina.
