Neighbors arrested in shooting death of man in Oregon parking lot
FOREST GROVE, Ore. -- A pair of romantically involved neighbors were arrested Monday in connection with the fatal shooting of 29-year-old Jason Scott Williams in a Corvallis restaurant parking lot Friday night, authorities told CBS affiliate KOIN.
Michael A. Deyette II, 43, was taken into custody Monday afternoon outside a Forest Grove residence on a warrant for murder, first-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon, the Corvallis Police Department told the station. Police said forensic evidence links him to the shooting Friday night.
Before authorities got Deyette into custody, armored trucks and a tactical negotiations team were deployed in the search, the station reported.
A young person, who witnessed some of the lead-up to the arrest, described the scene unfolding.
"I heard a gunshot, like a warning, like 'If you don't lay on the ground I'm gonna shoot you,'" he told affiliate KOIN.
Brooklyn F. Sheppard, 35, who authorities say is romantically involved with Deyette, was also taken into custody later in the evening and faces one count of murder. Authorities suspect she aided and abetted Deyette, according to the station.
A motive for the shooting was unclear.
