Nancy Kerrigan Didn't Talk About Brother

Nancy Kerrigan's brother, Mark Kerrigan, reportedly will undergo psychological evaluation and not be allowed to attend his father's funeral Thursday.

Mark Kerrigan has pleaded not guilty to assaulting his father, Daniel Kerrigan, who was found dead of an apparent heart attack at his Stoneham, Mass. home.

On "The Early Show," Nancy Kerrigan's friend and three-time Olympian Todd Eldredge said he sent Nancy an e-mail when he heard about her father's death. He said he hasn't received a response yet.

Eldredge said, "I'm sure she's really busy and doing family things and trying to get organized and things like that in this difficult time."

Eldredge and Kerrigan were on the 1992 Olympic figure-skating team together. They skated together this past fall.

Eldredge said Nancy had a close relationship with both of her parents.

He said, "Her mom being legally blind, she would always be at the events and they would have a TV camera for her or TV screen for her to watch Nancy skate, and she was really close. I got to know her and her family pretty well, because we competed at the same events for many, many years. They were super-nice people and great people, and it's such a tragedy."

"Early Show" co-anchor Maggie Rodriguez pointed out that Kerrigan's mother, Brenda, being legally blind, must have depended on her husband quite a bit for assistance.

"I'm sure she did," Eldredge said. "I'm sure that, everywhere she went, obviously, she had to be led around and stuff, so I'm sure that's going to be an adjustment for them. I just hope that things work out great for them."

As for Mark Kerrigan, Eldredge said he hadn't spoken to Nancy Kerrigan about him.

"I think I had seen him once or twice at an event, but he wasn't around as much at the events that I attended. So, I don't really know too much about him," he said, adding, "obviously, other than what I heard in the past few days."

The Kerrigan family has handled drama and tragedy before with the Tonya Harding scandal, Rodriguez said. How will they handle this situation?

"They're handling it well, all things considered," he said. "It's a difficult time for them, and like you said, she's been through a lot in the past and stuff with the Tonya-and-Nancy scenario, and so I'm sure that they are a close family, and they'll pull together and really, you know, rely on each other to get through this time."

Eldredge is part of the Smuckers' Stars on Ice Tour, which begins in April.
