Murder suspect William Hall escapes from Maine mental hospital
(CBS/WABI/AP) BANGOR, Maine - Police in Maine are searching for William Hall, a murder suspect who they say climbed over a fence at the state psychiatric hospital and escaped.
Police say Hall escaped the Dorothea Dix Psychiatric Center Tuesday night when he was undergoing an evaluation, reports CBS affiliate WABI.
The 29-year-old was last seen about 7:40 p.m. Tuesday running toward Bangor's popular Cascade Park.
Hall had been placed at the facility after he was arrested June 15. He was charged with strangling 28-year-old Melvin Abreau on June 9 and then throwing his body out a window.
News of the escape has some residents worried.
"It makes me a little bit more on guard than normal and I wish they'd watched him a lot more closely. If he was that dangerous he should've been kept in a place where he couldn't get out," added Mary Stockley, of Bangor, reports the station.
Authorities say Hall was wearing dark blue shorts, a white shirt and no shoes at the time of the escape. He has dirty blond hair police say was in a pony tail.
Police didn't know how Hall was able to reach the facility's fence.
If you have any information on his whereabouts, you are asked to call Bangor police at 207-947-7382 or dial 911.
