MTV Movie Awards pit "Bridesmaids" against "The Hunger Games"
(CBS/AP) LOS ANGELES - The cast of "The Hunger Games" will battle it out with the wedding party of "Bridesmaids" for the top prizes at this year's MTV Movie Awards.
With eight nominations each, the two hit films dominated in the 12 nomination categories announced by MTV Monday and shunted the vampires and werewolves of "The Twilight" movies to an unfamiliar spot outside of the limelight.

Also up for best picture are "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2," "The Help" and "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn-Part 1."
"The Twilight Saga" veteran actors were omitted from the best cast category. The nominees there were casts from the movies "Bridesmaids," "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2," "The Hunger Games," "21 Jump Street" and "The Help."
Those chosen for individual acting honors included Daniel Radcliffe, Ryan Gosling, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Josh Hutcherson, Channing Tatum, Jennifer Lawrence, Kristin Wiig, Emma Stone, Emma Watson, and Rooney Mara.
This year, there are six new categories, such as "best on-screen dirtbag" and "best gut-wrenching performance."
Fans can choose the winners by voting online beginning Tuesday at 8 a.m. ET.
The 21st annual MTV Movie Awards will be presented June 3 at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, Calif., and broadcast live on MTV.
