Mother, two children found dead in New Orleans
NEW ORLEANS -- The bodies of a missing New Orleans mother and her two children were found shot to death in what appears to be a murder-suicide, reports CBS affiliate WWL.
The bodies 0f 25-year-old Michelle McCullum and her two children, Cylie, 3, and Caden, 5, were found in a car in New Orleans, according to police. All three had been shot with a .40 caliber handgun.
McCullum had reached out to her mother, saying she would harm herself and her children, police said. Just after 10 p.m. Wednesday, she took the children, but didn't say where she was going.
Authorities sent out alerts early Thursday in the search for the two children, and their mother who were last seen in the Treme section of New Orleans.
Police Superintendent Michael Harrison said officers had been notified about McCullum's mental condition.
"She was apparently having some stress, possibly some mental issues, maybe some family issues, but she told a family member she was feeling homicidal and suicidal," Harrison said.
Around 7:30 a.m., State Police issued a Level II Endangered/Missing Child Media Advisory for the two children.
Soon after, police received a call from someone who saw McCullum's vehicle parked in a lot. When police arrived, they found the three bodies.
