Mother sentenced to 40 years in daughter's morphine death
DES MOINES, Iowa -- A Des Moines woman whose 5-year-old daughter died of a morphine overdose has been given 40 years in prison.
On Monday 25-year-old Tionne Bloodsaw pleaded guilty to child endangerment, two counts of neglect and one drug charge after making a deal with prosecutors, who had amended the charges and dropped others. Bloodsaw's daughter, Jayda Canada, died on Oct. 7, 2014.
Bloodsaw's boyfriend, 26-year-old Deshaun Trombone, last month was given 65 years in prison for convictions in this and other drug-related cases.
Police said Trombone and Bloodsaw didn't purposefully give drugs to the girl but that pills were left within her reach at an apartment in downtown Des Moines.
Police said they also found several grams of marijuana, cocaine and more than 80 tablets of ecstasy in the apartment, reports CBS affiliate KCCI.
