Molly Shannon Pens Children's Book

(CBS) NEW YORK - Molly Shannon is bringing her comedic sensibilities to a new role - children's book author.

"Tilly the Trickster" will be released in September, the publisher, Abrams Books for Young Readers, announced Wednesday.

Shannon's book tells the tale of a feisty, mischievous youngster named Tilly. It also features illustrations by Ard Hoyt.

In a statement from the publisher, Shannon said her childhood, Hollywood roles and interactions with her children inspired the story.

"Tilly is an imperfectly perfect role model for young readers," she said. "Some kids are just born to make trouble--and also bound to find out how it feels when trouble finds them!"

Shannon has two children - Stella, 7, and Nolan, 5.
