(CBS/AP) THE HAGUE, Netherlands - Museum officials in the Netherlands are dealing with a peculiar sort of "flight risk" - the apparent theft of a large model of an American jetfighter.

Edwin van Brakel, chairman of the Museum Vliegbasis Deelen, says the non-working model of a Lockheed Starfighter - weighing over 1,000 pounds - was discovered missing Sunday morning.

He said Monday it's a mystery how thieves managed to move the scale model, which is more than 30 feet long.

"It would not fit in the back of a Fiat 500," was how he described the replica.

Officials are hoping the unscheduled takeoff was the work of pranksters rather than scrap metal thieves. Van Brakel says that looks to be the case since a note left at the scene was translated as: "Fly away. See you next year."

Hey, it's not like they downed a top-security surveillance drone.
