Missing N.C. Boy Scouts Found
Scouts who were missing overnight in the North Carolina mountains have been located, officials said Monday.
Donna Johnston at the Occoneechee Council office in Raleigh said the scouts had gotten off a trail and waited until daylight before resuming their hike. They were located about 9 a.m.
"They're fine," Johnston said. "They're out of the woods."
A fresh rescue team was sent after dawn into the woods of Haywood County along with search dogs.
Several of the troop members had cell phones, but the cell phone service in the area is spotty.
Just a few hours earlier, fire department spokeswoman Charity Sharp had said, "We think they found out they were going to be too late getting in, decided to bed down for the night and hopefully will come out as soon as first light comes."
A fresh group of searchers had been brought in for the morning search.
