Missing LA Man Found, Survives 6 Days in Desert

A Los Angeles real estate broker survived nearly six hot days without water in the desolate Joshua Tree National Park by staying still and writing messages on his hat, including who he wanted for pallbearers at his funeral.

Nicole Kaplan told The Associated Press that her husband, 64-year-old Edward Rosenthal, made a wrong turn when trying to get back to his car, then strayed 13 miles before stopping and waiting for help.

Rosenthal started his one-day hike on Sept. 24. He was found by a San Bernardino County sheriff's helicopter crew just before noon Thursday and taken to a hospital for dehydration.

There were messages of love for his wife and daughter on his hat, along with instructions for food, music and poetry readings at his wake.
