Minor Leaguer Hits HR Cycle

Tyrone Horne had four homers and 10 RBIs Monday night in the Double-A Arkansas Travelers' 13-4 victory over the San Antonio Missions.

Horne hit for the home-run cycle -- a two-run homer in the first inning, a grand slam in the second, a solo homer in the fifth and a three-run homer in the sixth.

The Travelers' left fielder came to bat again in the eighth inning with two teammates on base, but Jeff Kubenka struck him out.

Arkansas, a farm team of the St. Louis Cardinals, plays in the Class AA Texas League.

Horne improved his average to .306 with 26 homers and 110 RBIs. He already led the league in RBIs and now is tied with Wichita's Kit Pellow for the home run lead.

No one has hit five homers in the modern Texas League era. The last player to hit four in a Texas League game was Tom Brunansky, who later played with the Minnesota Twins.

Horne, 27, did not play college baseball. He was drafted directly out of high school in Troy, N.C. and played last season with the Florida Marlins' affiliate, the Kane County Cougars, in a Chicago suburb, hitting .306 with 21 home runs and 91 RBIs.
