A Minnesota dog was recovering from surgery Thursday after he had eaten nearly two pounds of rocks, CBS Minneapolis affiliate WCCO reports.

Gordon, a 7-year-old Golden Retriever underwent emergency surgery at BluePearl Veterinary Partners in Twin Cities to have the 1.79 pounds of rocks removed.

The dog's owner told the veterinarian he must have gotten into some river rocks in a garden, but wasn't sure why Gordon did it because he always has food available for the pet.

Dr. Jeff Yo told the station said the surgery took two hours. Gordon is expected to make a full recovery.
