Mindy McCready funeral held in southwest Florida
Family and friends gathered for the funeral of country music star Mindy McCready in her Florida hometown on Tuesday.
About 200 were present Tuesday at the Crossroads Baptist Church in Fort Myers. McCready's music played in the background and her image was shown on a large screen behind the altar.
According to People, McCready's mother, Gayle Inge, said at the service, "Mindy adored her two children. She wanted them to know that. Through much agony and pain, she went to heaven. She is no longer sick. She is healed. Thank you for all who are here. Please pray for those boys. No matter what, she will always be my little girl, sitting in her car seat, singing into a hairbrush. The world was her stage."
McCready committed suicide Feb. 17 at her home in Arkansas, days after leaving a court-ordered substance abuse treatment program. The 37-year-old mother of two died from a single gunshot to the head about a month after her longtime boyfriend David Wilson's death, also thought to be suicide. She apparently killed her dog before turning the gun on herself.
McCready hit the top of the country charts before personal problems sidetracked her career.
In 1996, her "Guys Do It All the Time" hit No. 1. Her other hits included "Ten Thousand Angels," which was listed as one of Spotify's Top 10 most-viral tracks this past week.
