Milwaukee police shoot, kill robbery suspect

MILWAUKEE - A man on parole for robbing a downtown Milwaukee bank about 10 years ago was shot and killed by police Friday after robbing the same bank.

Police Chief Ed Flynn says police fatally shot the suspect after he robbed the Guaranty Bank in the Grand Avenue Mall about 3:30 p.m. and fired at pursuing officers.

Police say one officer returned fire, striking the suspect. No one else was hurt.

Police identify the suspect as 34-year-old Shante Alford. He also was wanted for two recent bank robberies in Milwaukee.

Rene Valles, a doctor from Salt Lake City, tells the Journal Sentinel he was walking to a store in the mall when he saw a man being chased by police, and "heard a bunch of shooting and yelling."

The officer was placed on administrative duty, which is standard.
