Miley Cyrus: Donald Trump loved my 2013 VMAs performance
Donald Trump has grievances about a lot of things, but according to Miley Cyrus, he loved the pop star's raunchy 2013 MTV VMAs performance that involved twerking on stage with Robin Thicke.
Cyrus, who is hosting the 2015 MTV VMAs on Sunday, told the New York Times that right after singing in one of the most talked-about performances of 2013, she barely even knew there was any controversy.
That is, until she received a phone call from the Donald.
Cyrus said that she was hanging out with Kanye West and he told her he enjoyed the performance.
"I was in the studio with Kanye [later] that night, and we watched it back and we didn't say anything," she explained. "He was like, 'That was sick,' whatever. We woke up the next day, and he was like, 'Whoa.' He called and said, 'Turn on your TV.'"
That's when she got a phone call from a different kind of mogul.
"I was staying at the Trump Hotel and Donald Trump literally called and said, basically, 'I know everyone's talking about it, but I loved it,'" she said. "I had no idea anyone was talking about it yet."
Cyrus said that to this day, she still doesn't understand what the big deal was.
"Even people around me really judged me," she said. "People that I really loved and thought were my friends judged me for it. They were like, 'You were on drugs when you did that performance'" I did nothing! I still don't get it."
We'll see what Cyrus' friends have to say when she hosts the VMAs on Sunday. Stay tuned for live coverage of the VMAs on CBS News.
