Report: Trump still holds onto small lead in Michigan
As Donald Trump continues to work on his transition to the White House, election officials in Michigan are still counting the ballots: fifteen days after Election Day the battleground state has yet to declare a winner.
Though counties were required to certify their results by Tuesday, state officials haven’t yet posted the official results. According to the Cook Political Report, which cited official sources, Mr. Trump is winning by a margin of less than one percent -- around 9,500 votes out of about 4.8 million cast in Michigan.
Michigan’s Board of Canvassers must report the state’s election results on Monday Nov. 28. If the business mogul were to win Michigan, he would be the first Republican to do so since 1988. Trump also flipped states like Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, which were expected to vote Democratic.
Also, according to the Cook Political Report, Clinton’s popular vote lead has now surpassed two million, as absentee and provisional votes continue to be counted in California, where Clinton has about 64.2 million votes, compared to Trump’s 62.2 million.
