Michigan man accused of shooting, burying brother

ALLEGAN, Mich. - A 25-year-old man has been arraigned on a murder charge, accused of killing and then burying his brother in southwestern Michigan.

The Allegan County sheriff's department says that Malcolm P. Dotson appeared Monday in district court. He's charged with an open count of murder and possessing a firearm during a felony.

The sheriff's department says deputies found the body of Dotson's 37-year-old half-brother, Damon Sheldon, Friday in a shallow grave near a trailer in Trowbridge Township, south of Allegan.

The department says that during their investigation, deputies found the suspect sleeping in a different home on the property.

CBS affiliate WWMT reports the alleged murder took place after Dotson became angry at Sheldon for not letting him stay at his trailer, and instead forcing him to sleep next door where there were piles of garbage and no electricity.

A deputy reportedly testified that Dotson confessed to grabbing a 17-caliber rifle and shooting Sheldon in the head before burying him the backyard along with items stolen during a break-in.

Malcolm Dotson is jailed without bond pending an April 28 court date.
