Michael Sims

Michael Sims was named Vice President of Editorial and News for CBSNews.com in May 2007.

Sims has been director of news and operations for the network's official Web site since 1999, responsible for all editorial, operational, budgetary and managerial aspects of the 24-hour, multi-platform digital news site. He oversaw the complete redesign and re-launch of the site in the summer and fall of 2005.

Under his leadership, CBSNews.com has been an industry-leading provider of advertiser-supported free broadband video on demand. The site has been recognized with a 2003 Edward R. Murrow Award for Best National News Web site from the Radio and Television News Directors Association, two EPpy Awards, in 2003 and 2006, for Best National/Cable TV Web site from Editor & Publisher magazine, and a 2004 Enterprise Journalism Award from the Online News Association for coverage of the Abu Ghraib prison abuse scandal.

Before that, Sims was a senior producer at Newspath, CBS News' 24-hour news service (1995-99). He was responsible for planning and running, among other events, Newspath's operation at the 1996 national political conventions and Pope John Paul's 1998 trip to Cuba. Sims was also a producer (1992-95) and associate producer (1989-92) for the service.

He was the assignment manager (1986-89) and assignment editor (1982-86) for KWTV Oklahoma City. In the former position, Sims was second-in-command overseeing the day-to-day operation of the station's 70-person newsroom. He was a reporter and afternoon drive anchor for WKY Radio (1980-82) and for KOMA Radio (1974-80), both in Oklahoma City. Sims also served one term as president of the Oklahoma Associated Press Broadcasters.

He was born in Holdenville, Okla. Sims attended Central State University in Edmond, Okla., where he majored in mass communication. He lives in Hartsdale, N.Y., with his wife and daughter.
