Michael Massee, "Rizzoli & Isles" and "24" actor, is dead at 61
Michael Massee, who acted in “Rizzoli & Isles” and “24,” has died at the age of 61. Details of his death have not yet been released.
His colleague, Anthony Delon, posted photos of the actor and wrote on Instagram, “R.I.P my friend Michael . You were ‘five seconds away from a clean getaway.’”
Massee was unfortunately perhaps best known for accidentally shooting and killing Brandon Lee on the set of “The Crow” in 1993. He fired the improperly prepared prop gun that killed Brandon, son of Bruce Lee. Brandon died in surgery on March 31, 1993, and “The Crow” was released the following year.
Massee was reportedly so traumatized by the accident that he never watched “The Crow” and took time off from acting, according to Variety. “I don’t think you ever get over something like that,” he said in 2005.
Massee acted in dozens of TV shows and films. He played Gustav Fiers in “The Amazing Spider-Man” and “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” and had recurring roles on “24” as Ira Gaines and “Rizzoli & Isles” as Charles Hoyt.
“Rizzoli & Isles” star Angie Harmon mourned Massee’s death on Twitter, saying, “My heart is heavy to hear of his passing. He was IMMENSELY talented & had the kindest soul. I am privileged to have known him.”
The actor is survived by his wife, Ellen Massee, and their two children.
