ME: Michigan girl, 14, died of blunt head trauma, asphyxia
ARMADA, Mich. - The cause of death has been released in the case of murdered Michigan teen April Millsap, whose body was found in a wooded area two weeks ago, reports the Detroit Free Press.
A death certificate filed Wednesday in the Macomb County Clerk's Office said the 14-year-old from Armada, Mich., died of blunt head trauma and asphyxia due to neck compression.
The paper reports Millsap's dog, Penny, led joggers to her body in a ditch near a nature trail in Macomb County on July 24. The teen had been out walking the dog when she was killed. Authorities had not previously released how the girl died, except to say that there were no stab or gunshot wounds.
Police are still working to determine who killed the girl.
Authorities have been looking for tips about a male seen riding a motorcycle on the trail on the day Millsap was killed, according to the Free Press. A composite sketch of the man has been released. The unknown male has not been called a suspect.
