Md. woman Robyn Gardner missing in Aruba
(CBS/WUSA) BETHESDA, Md. - Robyn Gardner, a 35-year-old Maryland woman, was reported missing in Aruba last week, say officials with the Natalee Holloway Resource Center.
According to CBS affiliate WUSA, Aruban authorities are now asking the public for help in locating Gardner. She was last seen at the Renaissance Aruba Resort & Casino in Oranjestad on August 2. Ironically, this is the same resort where Natalee Holloway, a young woman who mysteriously disappeared during a high school trip six years ago, vacationed.
The Aruba Herald newspaper reported Monday afternoon that Gardner disappeared on a snorkeling trip. The Herald reports that her snorkeling companion, Gary Giordano, is now a suspect in Gardner's disappearance.
According to the paper's sources, Giordano said he and Gardner "swam out until they could not stand anymore" and then he decided to swim back. When he arrived at the shore, he noticed that Gardner was not there and he called authorities.
Giordano was arrested on Friday.
On Monday, Gardner's boyfriend contacted the Natalee Holloway Resource Center about her disappearance.
Officials describe Gardner, from Frederick, as 5'5" and 120 pounds, with blond hair and brown eyes. She has tattoos on her left arm, her rib cage, and her right bicep.
