McNair Hospitalized With Infection

Tennessee Titans quarterback Steve McNair spent three days in the hospital with an infected shoulder, the same ailment that caused him to pull out of the Pro Bowl.

McNair was admitted to Baptist Hospital last week with a fever and pain in his right shoulder, Titans spokesman Robbie Bohren said Tuesday. Doctors cut a hole into his shoulder to clean up the infected area, and McNair now is receiving daily doses of antibiotics.

The quarterback has suffered pain in the shoulder since the Titans' 24-10 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in the playoffs. The Titans sent McNair to two specialists when his pain worsened following a magnetic resonance imaging test on Jan. 19.

Signing McNair to a new contract is one of the Titans' top priorities this offseason. The quarterback is due to count $8.175 million against the salary cap in the final year of his original seven-year deal. The Titans are just over $11 million above the projected cap for next season.
