Mass. man allegedly stabs relative, rapes woman, drives both to Ohio
BOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- A man allegedly stabbed his relative, raped a woman and then drove both victims from his home in Massachusetts to Ohio before being captured, according to police.
The suspect, whose identity has not yet been released by police, is jailed following a chase in Massachusetts and a standoff Sunday morning in Ohio, about 800 miles away. Police say he also managed to steal a Pike County Sheriff deputy's car.
The alleged crime spree began on Thursday when police said the suspect stabbed his male relative several times at their Boxborough, Mass., apartment. He then allegedly assaulted and raped a woman who was also in the home. Police said the suspect forced both victims into a car and drove about 800 miles from Massachusetts to Ohio.
Boxborough police said the suspect managed to steal a sheriff deputy's vehicle and led authorities there on a short police chase on Sunday morning. He was captured following the pursuit and a standoff, and is currently jailed in Pike County on theft and escape charges.
It is not known exactly where in Ohio the suspect was captured.
In a statement, Boxborough Chief of Police Warren Ryder called the case "deeply disturbing." The spree remains under investigation in both Massachusetts and Ohio.
A Boxborough police spokesman said authorities executed a search warrant on the Swanson Road apartment where the alleged stabbing and rape occurred. Findings of that search were not available.
Police said the stabbing victim is in serious but stable condition. The rape victim's condition is unknown. Both have not been identified.
