Erin Thorne, 28, was charged last week with soliciting child pornography and displaying obscene material to a minor. She faces a maximum 10-year sentence on the child porn charge.
Police said the Anne Arundel County school system received an anonymous tip last year about a possible sexual relationship between Thorne and a male student. Thorne was placed on leave from her job at Broadneck High School in Annapolis pending the investigation, WUSA reports.
The investigation revealed that Thorne and the student exchanged nude cellphone photos of themselves while the student was underage. Thorne is also accused of engaging in sexual activity with the student after he turned 18 years old, according to the station.
Thorne was an English teacher and former basketball coach. She allegedly formed a relationship with the student during his senior year before he graduated from high school in 2011, according to WUSA.
