Maroon 5 plans tour with Kelly Clarkson, plots new album

Two musical forces are teaming up for a late summer tour.

Maroon 5 and Kelly Clarkson will hit the road on a tour that's set to kick off in August and wrap in October. Tour openers will include PJ Morton, Rozzi Crane and Tony Lucca on select dates.

"We are very excited to team up with the Honda Civic Tour," said Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine in a statement. "Kelly, PJ, Rozzi and Tony are all such unique and amazing artists. I'm really looking forward to hitting the road with them. Each night will be a great night of music."

Members of the Maroon 5 fan club will have access to pre-sale tickets on April 1. Tickets go on sale to the general public beginning April 6.

Maroon 5, meanwhile, is looking ahead to its next release, telling The Associated Press, "We're just getting started. We've got some great songs in the can. The stuff we're working on now, it definitely has gone maybe a little darker in its sound, maybe back a little bit more to what we kind of did on (our debut) `Songs About Jane,'" said guitarist James Valentine. "But at this point we do have all kinds of different songs and it is early."

Maroon 5's last album, "Overexposed," came out in June 2012.
