Mark Kelly won't rule out political future

Former astronaut Mark Kelly, the husband of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., says he isn't ruling out a career in politics.

"That's not the plan right now," Kelly told the Associated Press. He added, "I've learned over a lot of years that you should never rule anything out."

Kelly retired from NASA and the U.S. Navy to help Giffords recover after she was shot in the head in the Tucson shooting in January that killed six people and wounded 12 others. When he retired last month, Kelly said he would explore "new opportunities" to serve the country again. Kelly and Giffords are also working on a memoir together.

The former astronaut told the AP today that he's also now planning to do paid speaking events around the country, in which he'll talk about his career in the Navy and NASA, as well as the challenges he and Giffords have faced in the wake of the Tucson tragedy.
