Manning defense may focus on mental state
HAGERSTOWN, Md. - The defense attorney for an Army intelligence analyst suspected to leaking classified information to WikiLeaks is focusing on the soldier's mental state.
A list of 48 prospective defense witnesses released Saturday by attorney David Coombs includes 15 who would testify at a Dec. 16 hearing about Pfc. Bradley Manning's mental, emotional or behavioral issues.
The prospective witness list also includes President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, but military justice experts say they are unlikely to be subpoenaed.
