Manhunt for hit-and-run drivers who killed Calif. bicyclist
ROSEMEAD, Calif. -- Police say a man was killed while out riding his bicycle in Rosemead early Saturday morning, after being struck by two hit-and-run drivers, reports CBS LA.
Heriberto Ruiz was biking on Rosemead Boulevard around 2:50 a.m. when he veered towards the right side of the lane and was struck by a vehicle accelerating past him, the California Highway Patrol reports.
The 47-year-old was knocked down and the driver sped off. The California Highway Patrol has no description of this vehicle.
According to CBS LA, another motorist in a late 2000 model white mini-van then struck the cyclist again and also failed to stop.
Ruiz was pronounced dead at the scene.
His family is unsure why he was riding his bike at that time of night.
His sister, Leticia Ruiz, had this message for the drivers: "Have a conscience. Turn yourself in. You have a family who's hurting."
Anyone with information about the deadly crash is urged to contact CHP's East Los Angeles office at (323) 980-4600.
