Man Stung by Bees More Than 500 Times Dies

Authorities say 54-year-old Marco Tulio Lazaro went into cardiac arrest and died Wednesday after being stung more than 500 times by bees as he cleared brush from a property in Southern California.

Encinitas Deputy Fire Chief Scott Henry says Lazaro was operating a backhoe to clear brush when he was attacked by bees.

Henry says Lazaro ran about 200 yards to an outhouse in an attempt to escape. Henry says firefighters found him it inside in full cardiac arrest.

Firefighters began CPR and took Lazaro to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

It wasn't immediately clear if the toxins from the bee stings caused Lazaro to go into cardiac arrest.
