Man in Santa costume during crossbow attack sentenced
ALBUQUERQUE -- A man convicted of shooting his brother-in-law with a crossbow while wearing a Santa Claus hat and mask has been sentenced to 6-and-a-half years in prison.
An Albuquerque jury on Thursday found 78-year-old Wendell Gunthorpe guilty of aggravated assault and battery, and weapons charges, and of violating a restraining order.
According to CBS affiliate KRQE, Gunthrope was wearing a Santa costume on Christmas Eve in 2011 when, prosecutors say, he confronted his wife and her brother. He shot his brother-in-law in the head with an arrow and punched his wife, with whom he was going through a divorce.
Both victims survived the attack.
