Mall of America "money toss" gets man cited, report says

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- Police in Minnesota have cited a man after he threw $1,000 in dollar bills from the fourth floor of the Mall of America rotunda, reports CBS affiliate WCCO.

Serge Vorobyov reportedly tossed the cash as a choir performed “Let it Snow.”

Vorobyov explained in a YouTube video blog that he threw out his "last $1,000" and wanted to help others after a “really tough year.”

“I thought I’d just spread some holiday cheer, be positive and kind of like, pay it forward type of thing and make it snow money when they sing ‘Let it snow,'" Vorobyov said in the video. "I thought it would be fun.”

But what was “spreading holiday cheer” for Vorobyov amounted to disorderly conduct for Bloomington, Minn. police, who arrested and charged the man.

A Mall of America spokesperson told the station the cash toss could have caused a major disturbance.
