Log cabin stolen (and we're not talking Lincoln Logs)

LOON LAKE, Wash. -- When Moose Hempel went to visit his homey little log cabin near Loon Lake on April 7, something was missing.

The log cabin.

His humble retreat -- a bit bigger than 10-feet by 20-feet in eastern Washington -- had been moved in its entirety.

Gone. Lifted right off its foundation.

"They even took the steps and the paving blocks," said owner Moose Hemple, of the place he'd dubbed "Hemple's Hideaway."

But just one day after CBS affiliate KREM reported on the missing log cabin, deputies with the Stevens County Sheriff's Office said they received a tip; the cabin was on private property about ten miles away, on the other side of Springdale, Wash.

Thursday morning, two days after the dwelling's disappearance was noticed, authorities found it. Officials said the entire structure had been placed on stilts and was sitting at the end of a private road east of Springdale, according to KREM.

Investigators think that whoever took the cabin was living in it.

Authorities were seeking a search warrant for the log cabin to get to the foundation -- the bottom -- of what happened, and who did it.
