List Of Sailors Dead, Missing
The Navy has released the names and hometowns of the 17 sailors confirmed dead or presumed dead from the explosion aboard the Norfolk-based USS Cole in Yemen.
The U.S. Navy evacuated the 33 injured sailors with American and French military aircraft to Djibouti and Germany for treatment.
Those confirmed dead:
- Seaman, James Rodrick McDaniels, Norfolk, Virginia.
- Operations Specialist second class, Timothy Lamont Saunders, Ringold, Virginia.
- Electronic technician first class, Richard Costelow, Morrisville, Pennsylvania.
- Signalman seaman recruit, Cheron Ouis Gunn, Rex, Georgia.
- Seaman recruit, Lakiba Nicole Palmer, San Diego.
- Ensign, Andrew Triplett, Macon, Mississippi.
- Seaman Apprentice, Craig Bryan Wibberley, Williamsport, Md.
Still listed as missing:
- Hull Maintenance technician third class, Kenneth Eugene Clodfelter, Mechanicsville, Virginia.
- Mess Management specialist seaman, Lakeina Monique Francis, Woodleaf, North Carolina.
- Information systems technician seaman, Timothy Lee Gauna, Rice, Texas.
- Engineman second class, Mark Ian Nieto, Fond du Lac Wisconsin.
- Electronics Warfare technician third class, Ronald Scott Owens, Vero Beach, Florida.
