"It's a great day," the Lohan matriarch told E! News of her daughter's departure on Monday.
Despite reports that Lohan would remain at the rehab facility until the weekend to receive further treatment, a source told E! that the actress, 24, left "earlier this morning."
The source did not reveal where the actress was headed next.
Lohan was ordered by a judge on Oct. 22 to remain at Betty Ford until Jan. 3. It was her fifth stay in a rehab facility.
According to E!, the actress is expected to meet up with her mother and secure herself a sober coach before deciding whether she'll head to New York or Los Angeles. She remains on probation stemming from her 2007 drug and drunken driving case and is due back in court for a progress hearing on Feb. 25.
On New Year's Day, Lohan posted a message on her Twitter account indicating she's hopeful about what comes next.
She wrote: "Today is the first day of the rest of my life 'The future depends on what we do in the present.' -Mahatma Gandhi... One step at a time...."
