NEW YORK (CBS) Lily Allen is expecting her first child, the British singer confirmed on Thursday.

The singer posted a picture on her Twitter account of her holding up a British paper with her baby news on the front page, writing, "not quite front page worthy but anyways........... surreal."

"Lily Allen and Sam Cooper are very happy to confirm that Lily is expecting their first child," her rep told People magazine. "Lily's professional commitments will carry on as normal, including a scheduled performance at the Big Chill this weekend."

British media outlets also published a statement from the singer, saying she and Cooper were "delighted" to be expecting.

Allen, 25, and Cooper, 32, have been dating for the past year.

Back in May, she told a UK radio show that she wanted to have a child "within a year."

"It'll be a minimum of four or five years before I make a record again. I know what commitment it takes to release an album," she said at the time. "I don't think that mixes well with the idea of settling down and having children, which is ultimately my goal and more of a priority than flying around the world. I'd want to be really hands-on for the first two or three years of having a little one. I don't want to leave them."

The baby news comes two and a half years after she suffered a miscarriage during her relationship with boyfriend Ed Simmons, of the electronic music duo the Chemical Brothers.
