Lil Wayne's Birthday: Rapper Celebrates Behind Bars With Online Album Release
NEW YORK (CBS) Lil Wayne may be in the slammer on his birthday, but that's not stopping him from releasing new music.
The rapper, who turns 28, released his eighth album, "I Am Not a Human Being," online on Monday. He in currently locked down at the Rikers Island correctional facility due to weapons charges.
"My family, I like to do things for him for his birthday, you hear me?" rapper and Weezy collaborator Birdman told MTV.com. "This the first time we not gonna get a chance to do that. But he is putting a new album out called 'I Am Not a Human Being.' We pop bottles for him while he's gone."
The online version has 10 tracks, while the album will not land on record store shelves until Oct. 12, which will boast three extra songs.
"He wanted to put 'I Am Not a Human Being' out to show people he's always in the building," Birdman told the music website.
Lil Wayne is set to serve 39 more days of his sentence before his release on Nov. 4.
"We all excited he's about to come home," Birdman told MTV.com. "He's happy. He wanna get out that place. That ain't no place for him to be."
Rapper Lil Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Carter, was sent to jail in March after pleading guilty in October to felony gun charges involving a semi-automatic pistol found on his tour bus in 2007.
