Dressing in layers is the best way to stay warm in cold weather.
And right now, layering is also in style, if you do it the right way.
Angela Matusik, a style editor People StyleWatch, on newsstands this month, stopped by The Early Show Tuesday with pointers on how to do just that.
The trick, she says, is adding layers without adding bulk.
Some quick layering "do's":
Do use it to help you wear things you may have thought would be unwearable, such as skirts that seem short, and lightweight tops that might not keep you warm enough.
Do wear different types of textures, such as velvet pants with a wool tweed vest and cotton shirt. Everything doesn't have to be the same fabric.
Do slim down below, if you're going for volume; make sure the look is balanced. And some "don'ts":
Don't wear a full volume shirt on top with something that's full and loose on the bottom.
Don't layer a heavy bulky sweater over another bulky item.
Don't hide your waist: It's easy to put on a belt to help show off the shape, even with a cardigan or something that doesn't come with a belt. For MUCH more on layering, from People StyleWatch, click here.
