Leonardo DiCaprio was on JFK Jet with Engine Failure
NEW YORK (CBS) The jetliner that was forced to return to New York's John F. Kennedy airport after losing one of its engines on Sunday had a famous passenger aboard - Leonardo DiCaprio.
The actor was on the Moscow-bound Delta Flight 30, his rep confirmed Monday.
DiCaprio "wishes to commend the actions of the pilot and flight crew in bringing the plane to a safe landing," his rep said in a statement.
A source told Us Weekly that, "Leo signed autographs for all the crew members when they landed."
Delta reportedly thanked DiCaprio, who was nominated for an Oscar for portraying airman Howard Hughes in the 2004 film "The Aviator," for the acknowledgment.
"From one aviator to another, thanks for acknowledging our crews' professionalism and focus on safety," the airline posted on Twitter, according to the Associated Press.
The actor was traveling to St. Petersburg, Russia, to attend a conference on protecting tigers.
