Leeches: Beauty Treatment Or Pain Reducer?
The latest in beauty treatments? Leeches!
As part of The Early Show's "Extreme Beauty" series -- we wanted to take a look at this beauty therapy, which is definitely on the extreme side.
As CBS News correspondent Michelle Miller reports,
some view leech therapy as a "detox method."
Actress Demi Moore dished to David Letterman about doing a "cleanse" while she was in Austria, in which part of the treatment was leech therapy.
"Really? Leech. Actual -- leeches? Like the blood-sucking ..." Letterman asked.
"Yes. Blood. I'm feeling very detoxified right now," Moore said.
But is Moore's claim of leech therapy really one of the reasons she looks so good at 46?
Or is the treatment really meant to be used primarily for osteoarthritis of the joints?
Miller went to the experts at The Continuum Center for Health and Healing, where they perform leech therapy, to find out if what Moore claimed is true -- and to see how leeches are actually used.
